Union warns of ‘end of Royal Mail’

The CWU union is warning of the “end of Royal Mail as we know it”, as 115,000 employees strike today and tomorrow, Black Friday.

The strike comes after Royal Mail senior management presented take-it-or-leave-it proposals, the union reports. These included: turning Royal Mail Group into a parcel courier, reliant on casual labour; compulsory redundancies; a non-backdated 3.5% pay increase; cuts to sick pay, and more.

CWU general secretary Dave Ward said: “We are disappointed that, instead of reaching a compromise to avoid major disruption, Royal Mail have chosen to pursue such an aggressive strategy. Make no mistake about it: British postal workers are facing an armageddon moment.

“We urge every member of the public to stand with their postie, and back them like never before.”
