Warning on forklift fires
The HSE has issued a safety notice highlighting incidents involving fires on and around liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered forklift trucks and similar vehicles during starting. These have been caused by a build-up of deposits in fuel systems, in particular vaporiser units. It says employers should review their safe system of work in relation to the use of these vehicles; provide information, instruction and training for all operators about the hazards raised in the alert; and park LPG vehicles in well-ventilated areas free from flammable material.
