AI at work

Nearly six in ten (58%) workers in new polling by the Prospect specialists’ union said the government should set rules around the use of generative AI artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, to protect jobs.

Just 12% thought the government should not interfere.

Fewer than half (45%) believed their employer would consult them on the introduction of new technology, and the survey also found workers are “deeply uncomfortable” with surveillance at work and the use of software to make automated hiring and promotion decisions.

“Advances in technology have the potential to bring huge benefits to both employers and workers, but without government setting out clear rules, sinister surveillance and software supervisors could become the norm,” warned Prospect general secretary Mike Clancy.
