Asda drivers win better pay and conditions

A hundred tanker drivers have won a pay increase of 12.2%, as well as improvements to their working life which vastly increase the overall value of the deal.

With a national driver shortage still ongoing, the tanker drivers, who work for Fuel Transport Logistics on an ASDA contract and are members of the Unite union, resolved a dispute over pay and conditions by securing the rise, as well as a move to a four-on four-off shift system.

This means that workers will work 26 fewer shifts per year with no loss of pay, increasing the total value of the deal to 25.7%.

Last years the same drivers feared for their jobs as ASDA was threatening to use low-cost hauliers at its new ASDA on the Move garages. However, following the threat of industrial action, the drivers won job security and have now achieved better working conditions.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is a well-deserved result for our members, who will see an increase in pay and a dramatic improvement in their work life balance.”
