Waste workers cancel strikes after 18% offer

Nearly 200 Veolia waste workers across Merseyside were due to strike in January but called off the action after the company offered them a new pay deal.

The deal, worth 18% over two years, was negotiated by Unite, and will see workers receive a 10% pay rise backdated for the financial year 2022/23, and an 8.4% increase for 2023/24. The lowest-paid workers will also receive a one-off payment of £375.

The acceptance of the much improved deal means that disruption at 22 Merseyside household waste sites was avoided.
