RPI inflation edges up

Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation rose for the year to August, from 9.0% to 9.1%. However, most reports focused on an unexpected slowdown in the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) from 6.8% to 6.7% (with a housing element, the CPIH measure went from 6.4% to 6.3%).

Slower rises in areas like food and drink were partially offset by upward contributions from transport, and housing and household services.
