Certification Office levy

The certification officer has reported on the first year in which trade unions and employers’ associations were required by law to cover the office’s costs.

The requirement, introduced via the Trade Union Act 2016, came into force on 1 April 2022 and the levy had to be paid by May 2023.

The office costs to be covered in the first year totalled £656,672.

Organisations with income below £81,574 were exempt from paying the levy, while all others were liable for the basic levy of £2,039.35, with further amounts depending on income.
