RPI inflation edges up

Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation has crept up to 1.3%.

It’s ahead of CPIH (including owner-occupier housing costs) at 0.9%, but below pre-lockdown RPI inflation of 2.6% in March.

Clothing, food and furniture, furnishings and carpets made the largest upward contribution.

Seasonal discounting of clothing and footwear followed a different pattern this year, but prices rose in October by more than last year.
