Pensions protests

French unions continue to mobilise hundreds of thousands in opposition to the government’s plan to raise the pension age from 62 to 64. The next, and sixth, day of action is planned for 7 March.

On 16 February, 440,000 people participated in nationwide demonstrations according to the police (1.3 million according to the CGT union confederation) with strikes at many workplaces. This followed demonstrations across France on 11 February, in which 963,000 people took part according to the police (2.5 million according to the CGT).
