Union continues fight against civil service cuts plan

Civil servants’ union the PCS reports that it is receiving cross-party support in its fightback against plans announced by the government to cut 91,000 civil service jobs.

An early day motion has so far attracted signatures from MPs in six different political parties.

In its response to the surprise government announcement the union said that: “The fact this news comes after departments have recently agreed three year spending plans with the Treasury, where it would appear none of this was mooted, seems bizarre.

“It smacks of a government with little clue, no real plan and just intent on feeding headline-grabbing news stories to the media to deflect attention from their failures and misdemeanours, as the country is feeling the pressure of a cost of living crisis the government has created.”
