Unite backs industrial injury benefits plan
Unite Scotland has signalled its support for plans to modernise industrial injuries benefits. The proposed Scottish Employment Injuries Advisory Council Bill, lodged by Labour MSP Mark Griffin, aims “to support the devolved industrial injuries benefits system so that it reflects modern workplaces”.
Griffin points out that the current no-fault industrial injuries benefit scheme offers no Covid-specific entitlement.
Unite Scottish Secretary Pat Rafferty said the pandemic has “starkly and tragically” highlighted the need for an overhaul of the current system.
