Architectural workers join Unite

A grassroots union for workers in architecture, the Section of Architectural Workers (SAW), has affiliated to Unite, forming a national branch of the general union.

SAW was set up in 2019 and has been run by and for its members. It has already notched up successes as a union, including coordinating members in taking industrial action to work from home during the pandemic and winning settlements for over 150 members in individual casework. It also successfully campaigned to elect Muyiwa Oki as the first worker-representative to be president of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

A SAW spokesperson said that “architectural workers are now even better equipped to fight against the workplace mistreatment they so regularly face.”
