Appraisal victory
The PCS civil service union has won major concessions over the “unfair and divisive appraisal systems” used across government.
The current regime is being scrapped and will be replaced by a new flexible arrangement that will not involve departments operating quotas and relative assessment.
There will also no longer be a link between performance and pay.
Four of the largest departments — the Department for Work and Pensions, HM Revenue and Customs, the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office — are planning to have new systems in place for 2017.
