Positive step at Grangemouth

An agreement has been reached between the Unite general union and the petrochemical company Ineos at its Grangemouth plant, allowing the union continued direct access to recruit new starters at the complex.

The agreement, hailed as a positive step forward by the union, also sees Ineos reintroduce the check-off system and allows employees to pay their union dues direct from their monthly pay packet.

As a result of the agreement, Unite will have access to ask those who have started work after 1 January this year as to whether they want to join Unite.

Pat Rafferty, regional secretary for Unite Scotland, said: “This is a positive step forward. Unite will continue to represent the interests of our members at the Grangemouth complex. We remain extremely concerned about the exodus of experienced workers from Grangemouth and the impact this has on health and safety, but expect that this step will lead to much more constructive discussions on site.”
