RMT at the double
Transport union RMT has won collective bargaining rights at two companies in the last few weeks after going through the statutory recognition process. Neither case involved a ballot.
At Balfour Beatty Rail, the union won its recognition claim on behalf of 50 hourly-paid staff working on the Track Partnership contract, where 78% of the bargaining unit were union members. The Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) had given the employer 10 months to come to a voluntary deal, but this had not been achieved.
At Brylaine Travel, Lincolnshire, RMT won recognition on behalf of drivers employed at four depots, the majority of whom were union members.
