Midwives join TUC

The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has formally become an affiliate to the TUC. It is the first Royal College to be a member of the TUC.

Welcoming the RCM, TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “The trade union movement takes its strength from its members, and we look forward to working more closely with them.

"Together with our other affiliates, we will continue to defend and champion our NHS and public services, which are the bedrock of a strong economy and a just society … All unions have a very important role to play.”

RCM chief executive Cathy Warwick said affiliation “will bring many benefits to the RCM, but most importantly to our members, such as access to an even wider range of educational, learning and training opportunities”.
