Reaching out to the blind

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has launched a new four-year project “Extending the Reach” to promote work experience for blind or partially sighted people.

Employers are being asked to take part in the project, which will enable blind or partially sighted people to gain work experience, on the job training and support to secure permanent jobs.

The 50-week placements will be fully funded by the Big Lottery. The RNIB will provide advice and support for employers offering placements.

Research shows that a lack of experience is a key reason behind the low employment rate of people with sight loss, with almost 70% of blind and partially sighted people not in employment.
