TUC welcomes a new affiliate

The NAHT head teachers’ union has joined the TUC, bringing the number of affiliated unions to 54.

The union — which has 28,500 members — is the biggest union to join the TUC for some time.

Its membership includes head teachers, deputies, assistant head teachers, bursars and school business managers. They hold leadership positions in early years, primary, special, secondary and independent schools, sixth form colleges, outdoor education centres, pupil referral units, social services establishments and other educational settings

TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Education matters — to pupils, to parents, to communities and to the UK economy, which is why it is so good to see the NAHT joining the TUC’s family of education unions.”
