Six ways to tackle living crisis

Work simply no longer pays for millions of people in the UK, according to a pamphlet — How unions can make work pay — produced by the GMB general union in association with the Class think tank.

The pamphlet sets out six demands to make work pay, the first being to raise the Living Wage of £7.65 an hour outside London and £8.80 in the capital to £10 an hour.

The other five demands are for: an eight-hour working day; rent controls; free childcare; the closure of tax loopholes; and the new right for working people to call a union into their workplace to advise them of their rights and to help them to organise.
