Transport cuts will hit people with disabilities

Rail union RMT said the House of Commons Transport Select Committee report on disabled access to transport services was a clear warning to both the government and London Mayor Boris Johnson that disabled access — already poor — will worsen if they implement more cuts.

RMT said that the plans to axe 14,000 rail guards, station and ticket office staff, decimate bus services and cut ticket office and station staff on the London Underground will leave people with disabilities effectively barred from transport services. The union is fighting the cuts alongside disability groups.
