Belly Mujinga

The Crown Prosecution Service last month concluded that there are no grounds to alter the decision of the British Transport Police (BTP) not to take further action following its investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of Belly Mujinga, a member of the TSSA transport union.

It is alleged that Mujinga and two of her co-workers were working on the concourse of London’s Victoria Station in late March when they were involved in a disagreement with a customer who, it is alleged, coughed and spat at them. Mujinga died of COVID in early April.

The BTP found insufficient proof of a crime to justify a prosecution following a review of CCTV footage, witness statements and interviews.

The TSSA continues to push hard for risk assessments to take into account the ethnic background of workers so proper protections can be put in place.
