Union offers school uniform aid

Public services union UNISON has responded to the difficulties being experienced by members on low incomes by offering help with the cost of school uniforms.

The union is making available one-off grants of £50 per school age child, up to a total of £150.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• be a member and have paid four weeks’ subscriptions before 3 August, when the initiative began;

• be financially responsible for the child/children and receiving Child Benefit for them;

• have combined (applicant and partner, if applicable) savings/rolling bank balance(s) of less than £1,000; and

• either receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit, or have an annual net salary of less than £18,000 (combined salary with partner must be less than £18,000 pa, if applicable).
