Journeys to work down, job adverts up

The latest ONS survey of the effects of Covid-19 on the UK society and economy shows 11% of the workforce on furlough and 85% of businesses trading.

Between 18 and 25 September, total online job adverts increased from 55% to 59% of their 2019 average, their highest recorded level since 3 April 2020.

There was a fall in numbers of working adults traveling to work, down from 64% to 59%, and the volume of all motor vehicle traffic was seven percentage points below the levels seen on the first Monday of February, slightly lower than that of the previous week. Overall footfall was similar to the previous week, with its weekly average remaining above 70% of its level in the same period the previous year.
