Inflation inches up to 0.6%

UK inflation rose fractionally in June, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 0.6% last month, up from 0.5% in May. A continued fall in the price of food and drink was partially offset by rises in the cost of clothing and, in particular, of computer games and consoles.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Prices Index (CPIH) 12-month inflation rate was 0.8%, up from 0.7% in May. CPIH includes owner occupiers' housing costs.

The largest contribution to the CPIH rate in June 2020 came from recreation and culture (0.32 percentage points). Inflation remains below the Bank of England's 2% target.
