UNISON ballot gets underway

Voting gets underway later this month among the 1.3 million members of the UNISON public services union for the first new general secretary in 20 years. The list of confirmed candidates was due to be released as Labour Research went to press, but three had already secured their place on the ballot paper, having exceeded the threshold of 25 branch nominations.

The three are lay member Paul Holmes and assistant general secretaries Roger McKenzie and Christina McAnea, who has also received official endorsement from the union’s National Executive Council.

Voting will run from 28 October to 27 November 2020, with the results announced on 11 January 2021.
