CWU region calls for HSE action on suicide
The communications CWU union North West region marked World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September by highlighting the campaign for the HSE to recognise work-related suicide.
Calling for support for the Hazards Campaign work suicide e-postcard campaign, the union pointed out that suicide linked to workplace factors is one of the biggest single causes of work-related fatalities. In France, one in five suicides reported to the social security authorities is officially recognised as being work-related. However, the HSE does not recognise or investigate work-related suicides.
The postcard campaign calls on HSE chief executive Sarah Albon to “rectify a grievous HSE enforcement and justice blind spot” and remove immediately the current HSE suicide reporting and inspection exemptions.
