Airline staff in Austria want industry-wide deal
Hundreds of pilots and cabin crew on Vienna-based airlines disrupted flights earlier this month, when they took part in company-wide meetings on 11 September. The union vida wants an industry-wide agreement for airlines, which will “create a fair basis” for airline employees.
The airline industry is unusual in Austria in that it does not have an industry-wide agreement. Almost all other industries have this and collective bargaining coverage is estimated to be around 98%. The employers oppose an industry-wide deal arguing that it will damage the competitiveness of Vienna airport.
