Workers employed at the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) in Manchester and London have voted to strike against their 10th pay cut in a row.


PCS members working as senior caseworkers, caseworkers and admin for the healthcare watchdog, voted overwhelmingly for action following a pay offer falling below RPI inflation.


The 2% offer marks the 10th consecutive below-inflation pay imposition while, according to the PCS, many senior executives at the ombudsman were getting a 4% pay rise and executive directors were receiving bonuses of up to £10,000.


Management has now decided to impose the pay offer without reaching a collective agreement.


PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said PHSO members had not taken the decision lightly. They had tried to negotiate a fair deal, but management had “shown utter contempt for their situation and imposed a pay cut on hardworking staff”.
