Derecognition move by offshore companies

Three unions representing offshore workers have condemned plans they say are being made by the Offshore Contractors Association (OCA) to terminate its partnership agreement with unions on 30 June. Unite, the GMB and the RMT say the move effectively derecognises them (see also page 4). Set up in 1995, the OCA negotiates with unions on terms and conditions on behalf of member companies, but the arrangement has been undermined by oil and gas companies hiring contractors that are outside the collective agreement.
