Portuguese union out in cold
The Portuguese government has reached agreement with the main employers’ organisations and the UGT union confederation on changes to the labour code, particularly in the area of short-term contracts. However, the largest union confederation, the more militant CGTP, has not signed, arguing that despite some positive elements, the proposals do not combat the causes of increasingly precarious employment. The measures are due to be debated in parliament on 6 July.
