Gaza deaths condemned
The UNISON public services union last month condemned “the brutal massacre of 58 Palestinian protestors and injury to over 2,700 more” by the Israeli army near Gaza’s border with Israel.
Protestors were killed and injured as Palestinians marked the annual “Nakba Day”, commemorating the displacement of Palestinians when the state of Israel was founded in the aftermath of the Second World War.
UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said: “We condemn the government of Israel for its actions that have brought fresh pain to the Palestinian people and we pledge to redouble our efforts to campaign for the rights of Palestinians, peace and a time when such aggression, violence and killing can be consigned to the history books.”
