Dangerous dog sentence

Communication workers’ union CWU called a 160-hour community service sentence handed down to an dog owner last month as a “satisfactory and welcome conclusion”.

Stockport postal worker Stacey Brennan lost the top of her finger when a dog bit her through the letter box.

Dave Joyce, head of health and safety at the CWU, said: “This case should serve as a warning to those dog owners with a blasé attitude towards these incidents which happen far too often.” He suggested that dog owners should consider installing wire letter-box cages to their front doors, as a safety measure.
