Strike ballot over pay at Sellafield
Around 5,000 union members at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing site are being balloted for industrial action after the company imposed a 1.5% pay award and refused further talks with the unions.
The work carried out by Sellafield staff is “vital to the safe and efficient functioning of the UK’s nuclear sector, including the generation of electricity for homes and industry,” said GMB senior organiser Chris Jukes, but management had “chipped away relentlessly at terms and conditions.”
The Unite general union accused Sellafield management of refusing to allow workplace meetings to discuss the dispute.
“This is unprecedented. Sellafield management’s attempt to stifle free and open dialogue is truly disappointing,” Unite regional officer Graham Williams said.
