HSE regulation of offshore activities
The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (Application outside Great Britain) Order 2013 is expected to come into effect on 6 April 2013.
The Order clarifies that the HSE regulates offshore activities associated with the new emerging energy technologies, such as combustible gas storage and underground coal gasification, as well as climate change technologies, such as carbon dioxide storage.
It also updates definitions — including clarifying which structures the HSE regulates as an offshore installation. As well as ensuring continuity with the previous 2001 and 2011 orders.
