Portuguese unions demand €600 a month

Portugal’s largest union confederation, the CGTP, has called for the national minimum wage to be increased to €600 a month from January 2016. The rate has been €505 a month since January this year, having previously been frozen at €485 since 2011.

Like other wages in Portugal, the monthly minimum wage is paid 14 times a year, so the amount received each calendar month is €589.17.

The CGTP is also calling for a 4% increase in pay with a minimum €40 a month increase. This is well above the current inflation rate of 0.7% (August).
