UK growth confirmed

The UK economy grew by 0.7% in the second quarter of the year, the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show, in line with the previous estimate.

The ONS said that in the second quarter of 2013 the construction and industrial sectors expanded at their fastest pace for three years.

There have been revisions to earlier figures, with growth in the first quarter stronger than previously thought. The ONS estimate was revised up to 0.4%, up from 0.3%.

On the downside, the estimate for annual growth in the 2012 calendar year was revised from 0.2% to 0.1%.
