Welsh care provider sacks its entire staff

Public sector union UNISON has lodged a formal dispute over the decision of social care provider Anheddau Cyf to dismiss its entire staff of 300 people and re-engage them only if they accept greatly inferior terms and conditions.

Anheddau provides care for vulnerable adults on behalf Gwynedd, Anglesey, Conwy and Denbighshire Councils. It says it is suffering from chronic underfunding, with the costs of implementing the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage not being met by the commissioning councils.

UNISON says that Anheddau rejected all of the union’s suggestions in consultations over how to continue to provide care in the face of the funding shortfall.
