Recognition successes for Unite

General union Unite has been successful in two formal recognition claims in recent weeks.

One covers almost 600 hourly workers carrying out a number of jobs including printing, engineering, warehouse and despatch at eight sites of packaging firm Coveris Flexibles. In a formal recognition ballot ordered by the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) they voted by 72% in favour of Unite recognition.

Unite regional officer Mark Walker said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Unite to secure such a high return in favour of union recognition.

By voting “yes”, workers across the Coveris Flexibles UK Group have sent a clear message to the company that they want union recognition at their workplace.”

The second win was for weekly paid staff at Rhys Davies Logistics in Taffs Well. A ballot was not ordered as the CAC was satisfied that 64% of staff were Unite members.
