Figures reveal household income growth – and disparities

Gross disposable household income (GDHI) grew by 4.6% in the UK from 2017 to 2018, according to figures examining regional differences released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Scotland and Northern Ireland exceeded this figure, with growth of, respectively, 5.1% and 4.7%.

The average UK GDHI in 2018 was £21,109 per person, with London having the highest GDHI per head at £29,362 available to spend or save, while North East England had the lowest at £16,995 each.

Between 2017 and 2018, GDHI per head of population increased in all regions. In 2018, Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham was the local area with the highest GDHI per head (£63,286), nearly three times the UK average. Nottingham had the lowest GDHI per head at £13,138.
