Pay deal in Italian banks

Unions and employers have agreed a three-year settlement for the 282,000 employees in Italian banks. The deal, which runs from the start of 2020, provides for an €190 a month increase in the pay of the benchmark grade, paid in three stages: €80 in January 2020, €70 in January 2021 and €40 in December 2022.

As well as a general pay increase, the unions have been able to achieve a number of other improvements. These include: the elimination of a lower rate for new starters – previously 10% less than the full rate; a right to disconnect – so that employees will no longer be expected to answer calls or emails at home; and new support for families – including seven days of paid leave for fathers in the five months after birth.
