Dangerous footwear may be booted out

Royal Mail has agreed to review the introduction of new footwear for postal workers, following pressure from the CWU communication workers’ union.

Having been inundated with complaints about the slippery soles on new standard-issue “Magnum Hi-Tec” shoes and boots earlier this year (see Workplace Report, January 2008), the union – which has been running a slips and trips campaign at the company – has persuaded managers to delay further orders until satisfactory tests have been carried out.
