Basket of goods revised
In a nod to environmental concerns, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has added reusable bottles or mugs to the basket of goods used to calculate the rate of inflation.
Each year, the shopping basket is revised to reflect consumers’ buying choices.
In 2020, 16 items have been added to the UK Consumer Prices Index (CPI) including owner-occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH). Fourteen have been removed.
