Central government agrees harassment guidelines
Unions and employers in central government at European level have agreed that the multi-sectoral guidelines on the prevention of third-party violence and harassment at work should be adopted for the 8.9 million workers in central government.
The decision was taken at a meeting between the two sides on 19 December and the guidelines indicate how policies and procedures to prevent and deal with harassment and violence can be introduced.
It follows evidence that verbal abuse and physical attacks on central government workers are growing, particularly in prisons, employment services, tax offices and inspectorates. Women and workers from ethnic minorities are particularly affected.
