Tribunal claims rise

The number of claims received by the employment tribunal in July to September 2012 was 45,300 – a 13% rise on the same period of 2011.

The increase was due to the numbers of multiple claims accepted (up by 25%), particularly those associated with Working Time Regulations (WTR). There was an 81% increase in WTR claims, but this includes a large number of resubmitted airline cases.

There was also a significant rise of 66% in the number of claims associated with sex discrimination.

Equal pay claims were down by 59%; age discrimination by 38%; suffer a detriment/unfair dismissal by 32%; redundancy pay 29%; transfer of undertaking claims 25%; and claims over unauthorised deductions of wages were down by 18%.
