Portugal: Strike wins equal treatment
The Portuguese ministry of health and the health union SINTAP have signed an agreement which ensures that workers employed in the health service on individual contracts will in future have the same terms and conditions as workers on standard public service contracts.
This was not the case in the past, something the union described as an “injustice and discrimination”.
Under the terms of the deal, which was reached after a two-day strike on 2 and 3 May, workers with individual contracts will begin to have equal treatment, including the standard 35-hour week from July this year.
