Czech public sector pay

The Czech government has agreed a deficit budget for 2019 which will produce an average increase of around 8% for public sector workers, with teachers’ pay going up by 15%, well above the inflation rate which was 2.3% in August. Only part of the increase will be in basic pay – around 10% for the teachers – with the rest made up of bonuses and other supplements.

The higher increases for teachers reflect the fact that they are poorly paid relative to other graduate professions.

The government intends to cut employment in public administration by 1,300 in 2019.
