PCS stress survey

Last month, public and commercial services union activists at the PCS annual delegate conference voted in favour of a union-wide survey of “the number one health hazard for civil servants” – stress.

Alison Roder of the Ministry of Justice HQ branch moved a motion calling for a survey across the whole membership of the union in order to “flag up the warning signs and enable the union to challenge employers on a number of fronts”.

Laura Bee of HMRC Leicestershire branch, pinned the blame for the stress firmly on government policies. “The vicious, ideological attacks, the cuts, closures and threats of privatisation are making our members more susceptible to stress,” she said. “Stress is not a weakness, it is the number one health and safety concern.”
