Inflation falls

In April, the main inflation measures were down, Office for National Statistics figures show. The main causes were falls in the prices of air fares, vehicles, clothing and social housing rents. The annual rate of inflation — as measured by the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — was down to 1.3% from 1.6%.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) was also lower. The annual percentage increase for this measure was down to 0.3% in April from 0.5% in March.
