Pay rises for emergency services in Poland

Unions have called at halt to a long period of protest action which began in July, after the Polish government agreed to increases in the pay and conditions of the emergency service workers, such as the police and firefighters.

From 1 January next year, pay will go up by 650zł (around €151) a month and there will be a further 500 zł (€116) increase from 1 January 2020. There are also improvements in overtime pay.

In addition, the government has withdrawn the requirement that officers must reach 55 before they can retire. The only requirement in the future will be at least 25 years’ service.
