Recognition for Unite at motorway group


A successful organising campaign by the Unite general union and positive negotiations between the union and Connect Plus Services (CPS), have won recognition for Unite.


The agreement means Unite will represent around 260 workers and negotiate on pay, hours and holidays going forward. Unite will also be playing a role when it comes to supporting training and skills development.


CPS operates and maintains the M25 motorway network, including key adjoining trunk roads on behalf of Connect Plus. It carries out routine maintenance, winter maintenance, as well as managing the operations and the overall requirements of the network. CPS is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis Road Operation UK.


Unite regional officer Malcolm Bonnett said: “Unite is delighted to be a signatory to this agreement and to take our relationship with CPS forward. It means workers responsible for maintaining one of the most important motorways in the UK will have the support of the UK’s major trade union.


“Our members have been working towards union recognition for a long time and the vast majority of the workforce has joined Unite. The workers have elected their own representatives who can now give members a voice at work.”
